SJA Summer Basketball League

Welcome to the SJA Basketball League and THANK YOU for you for volunteering to coach one of our youth basketball teams.  Coaching youth sports is a rewarding experience.  Are you interested in assisting our youth to develop physical fitness, mental alertness, sportsmanship, leadership, recognition that the manner of play outweighs the victory, and to encourage fair and courteous play and conduct, and teach respect for opponents and officials of the game?  Do you wish to help young people develop their individual basketball skills and to learn how to contribute to team effort during competition? No matter what your basketball background, you have something to offer our youth as they learn and hone their skills. Perhaps, the young people have something to teach their coach as well.....

The SJA Summer Basketball League is committed to the safety and abuse prevention of the youth who participate in our program by complying with the "Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and SafeSport Authorization Act of 2017." Background checks (CORI) are conducted of all persons over the age of 18 that are involved with the youth of our league. The Safe Sport Act requires that all adults who interact with youth athletes complete abuse awareness training to ensure that staff and volunteers understand what constitutes abuse, signs and symptoms of abuse, and their responsibilities to protect people receiving services from abuse and neglect.

As you complete the Coach/Assistant Coach Registration, you will be prompted to answer if you have completed an accepted abuse prevention training. If you answer yes, you will be required to note the provider of the training and upload a certificate of completion. If you answer no, then you will receive a training link via email from Abuse Prevention Systems upon completion of this registration.  Abuse Prevention Systems is compliant with the Safe Sport Act and will provide you with the necessary education for compliance of federal law. This link will also be stored in your SportsEngine profile.  All persons over the age of 18 who wish to volunteer in any capacity with the SJA Summer Basketball League are required to complete this training. The fee for this training will be paid for by the SJA Summer Basketball League.

Any person over the age of 18 that has completed approved compliant abuse prevention training for other youth organizations should email sjasummerbasketball@gmail.com to confirm that previous training is approved. If approved, said adult can disregard the training from Abuse Prevention Systems.
